Following No. 7 & Trio Concerto and "Rural" & No. 2, here comes the rich coupling of "Hero" & "Leonore" Overture No. 2. It is innovative and dramatic. Hero" is said to have changed the course of symphonic music up to that time, and "Leonore" is intense and complex. Both symphonies have a sharp and concentrated sound that is appropriate for their serious content. The performance, which moves at a brisk tempo supported by a powerful low frequency range, is fully supported by a highly complete recording based on a consistent sound policy. It has long been acknowledged that the LSO is a highly functional orchestra that can flexibly respond to a wide range of music.
