A definitive 4-disc archive featuring works from 1989 to 1998—the early career of OctaveOne, the Detroit-based brother duo who have consistently released floor-filling hits since their debut!!! OctaveOne, formed by the Burden brothers—who, as part of Detroit’s second generation alongside UR and Carl Craig (following in the footsteps of the “Belberry Three” such as Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, and Juan Atkins)—have continued to release music energetically to this day. They have left behind a vast body of techno and house music that blends futuristic synth and keyboard sounds with the essence of Black music genres like soul and jazz. “I Believe,” an early Detroit vocal house track released on Derrick May’s Transmat and featured on Ken Ishii’s renowned mix “MIX-UP.” “Day Star Rising,” which served as the B-side to DJ Roland and Mad Mike’s “Aztlan” on the UR and 430 West collaboration EP, “Meridian”—a track from the Detroit techno scene that appeared on the compilation EP “Detroit Techno City” and is highly regarded by DJs—as well as the breakbeat track “The Edge of Nowhere,” which represents a different side of his sound, and the electro-funk track “And All That Remains,” are all included without exception. All tracks are fully remastered, pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl, and packaged in a gatefold sleeve designed to hold all four discs.
