Daniele Gatti will officially assume the position of the 7th Chief Conductor of the 128-year-old Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra on September 9, 2016, at the inaugural "RCO Opening Night" concert. To commemorate the occasion, a "white-hot live performance of Gatti with the orchestra" as a guest conductor will be released. Gatti is often said to have an extremely sincere attitude toward music and an unparalleled respect for music, and this attitude is also evident in this performance. The works by the three innovative 19th century composers are all thematic music with a clear object or story to express, and "women" is a major axis of their works, making this a consistent program in terms of history and theme. The program was consistent in terms of history and theme, as one would expect from Gatti. We look forward to seeing how Gatti and the RCO will develop their performance activities in the future. The overture to the magnificent "Tannhäuser" is an unquestionable highlight of the concert, and the orchestra's virtuosity in both the wind and string sections is unquestionable.The meditative and poetic atmosphere that Gatti's conducting elicits from the orchestra in Liszt's "Orpheus" is superb. The precision of Gatti's conducting and the skillful construction of the orchestra are evident in these selections. Although the "Symphonie fantastique" is a well-known piece that has been performed many times, Gatti's performance allows us to experience the surprise that the audience must have experienced at the time of the premiere of this work in 1830.
