Description:
Oscar-winning actor Christoph Waltz directed Beethoven's "Fidelio" (1806 version) in March 2020, when the performance was canceled. However, due to the spread of the new coronavirus, the performance was canceled, but it has been preserved here as a video. The production was directed by Austrian-born Christoph Waltz, an Oscar-winning actor. Waltz, who used to see opera twice a week until his teenage years due to the influence of his stepfather, a composer and conductor, directed Verdi's "Falstaff" staged by Opera Flanderen in Antwerp and Ghent, and this is the third opera he has directed. The stage set is also a breathtaking set by Barkow Leibinger, a world-renowned architectural firm. The cinematic lighting by Henry Braham, who also works in Hollywood, the dynamic performance by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra conducted by Manfred Honeck, and the talented singers make for a spectacular picture.Leonore is Nicole Chevalier, who was named Opernwelt "Young Artist of the Year 2020". Florestan is played by Rick tenor Eric Cutler. In addition, the strong ensemble of Gabor Bretz (Don Pizzaro), Christoph Fischeser (Rocco), and Melissa Petit (Marzelline) make for an unforgettable performance. Beethoven's only opera, "Fidelio," exists in three drafts: the 1814 "Fidelio," which is now the main repertoire, the second draft of 1806, and the first draft of 1805, "Leonore." Beethoven wanted the work to be performed under the title "Leonore" from the first performance of the 1805 first draft, but the promoters demanded that it be performed under the title "Fidelio" to distinguish it from previous works by other composers Beethoven's self-published script of 1806, and the The vocal score published in 1810 bears the title "Leonore," and today we generally refer to the first two manuscripts as "Leonore" and the third, the current manuscript, as "Fidelio," but the names are somewhat confusing. This work is the second draft of the 1806 edition.
