Yo-Yo Ma's "Bach Project" in a sacred place at the foot of the Acropolis, performing the complete unaccompanied cello suites in one night! The best cellist of our time, Yo-Yo Ma, performed the "Bach Unaccompanied Cello Suites" live at the Open Air Music Hall in Athens, Greece, in June 2019. In 2017, he released his third recording. He is currently developing the "Bach Project," which will take him to 36 concerts around the world, beginning with a performance in Denver in August 2018. The performances are held at selected iconic locations around the world, including a performance in front of a bridge on the border with Mexico in Texas, USA, and the only performance in Japan was in Okinawa. However, the planned Shuri Castle was destroyed by fire on October 31, 2019. The concert was scheduled to be held at the Okinawa Convention Center at the end of March 2020 with a message to rebuild Shuri Castle, but this has also been postponed in light of the global situation. The film was recorded at the outdoor amphitheater, which is used for concerts and Greek tragedy performances.Built by Herodis Atticus, a member of the Senate, the ruling body of ancient Rome, it was intended as a memorial to his wife Aspasia Ania Regilla, who died in 160. It was rebuilt in 1950 after a turbulent period. The architecture offers an unforgettable view of art in a sacred place at the foot of the Acropolis. Hats off to Yo-Yo Ma's skill in performing this masterpiece, which is considered the "Old Testament" for cellists, in a single evening, but the sight of the 5,000 people enthusiastically welcoming and listening to him is a spectacle to behold.
