Directed by Pierre Audi, originally from Lebanon *Tristan und Isolde* by the Rome Opera, conducted by Daniele Gatti Live footage from the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in 2016. This is Wagner’s *Tristan und Isolde*, directed by Pierre Audi (born in Lebanon in 1957) and conducted by Daniele Gatti. Daniele Gatti was appointed Music Director of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in December 2018. Although this recording features a performance from before his appointment, it showcases Wagner’s ultimate drama of love and sensuality through meticulous artistic interpretation and a performance that delivers grand, dramatic effects, raising high expectations for their collaboration following his appointment. This production was a co-production between the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and the Dutch National Opera, and it was also performed to great acclaim in Paris and Amsterdam. Director Pierre Audi moved to England at the age of 17 after living in Paris and studied at the University of Oxford. In 1979, he founded the Almeida Theatre in Islington, London, where he directed numerous productions; from 1988, he served as Artistic Director of the Dutch National Opera (until 2018). From 2005, he served as Artistic Director of the Holland Festival (2005–2014), and from 2015, he also served as Artistic Director of Park Avenue Harmony in New York; in 2019, he was appointed General Director of the Aix-en-Provence Music Festival in southern France. He is a leading figure in the world of theater direction.
