Description:

The Salzburg Festival 2018 "The Magic Flute" with the up-and-coming Greek conductor Kalidis and a youthful and stable lineup including Gernet, Kark, and Shagimuratova! The Salzburg Festival presents Mozart's operas every year, and "The Magic Flute" is one of the most special ones. 2018 marks the first appearance since 2012 (Vienna Konzentus Musiks conducted by Arnoncourt and directed by Herzog), with a new production by an American female director, Lydia Steyer. American female director, Lydia Steyer, has newly directed the production of "The Magic Flute". ≪The "The Magic Flute" is in the Zingspiel form with many lines, but Steyer cut most of the lines, and the "old man" who tells the story appears as a narrator (originally, he was an actor, Bruno Bachmann, but he was replaced by a narrator in the production). (Actor Bruno Ganz was originally scheduled to appear in this production, but he had to cancel suddenly, and Klaus Maria Brandauer appeared as a substitute.) The audience will encounter a different approach as the "Grandfather" tells the story to his grandchildren in the form of three children, played by members of the Vienna Boys' Choir, who are asked to read the story before they go to bed.Conducted by Greek-born Konstantinos Kalidis (1974-). The stable singing lineup includes Matthias Gernet as Zarathustro, Albina Shagimuratova as the Queen of the Night, and Cristiane Kark as Pamina. Young singers Mauro Peter and Maria Nazarova also give good performances, supporting the new production with a well-rounded lineup. King International
