Description:
2009 Sferisterio Opera FestivalsMaster Pier Luigi Pizzi's "Don Giovanni" like an Italian painting! The live performance of "Don Giovanni" at the 2009 Sferisterio Opera Festival is now being re-released. The Sferisterio Opera Festival is an open-air opera festival held in Macerata, a medieval city that still retains the atmosphere of a medieval town, where the main stage is a neoclassical stadium built in the 1820s for ancient tennis. The opera has also been staged in the 550-seat medium-sized Theater Lauro Rossi since it was renovated in 1989. The production is directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi, a master opera director who also served as artistic director of the festival. The opera is beautifully staged, with Pizzi's signature sensual beauty added to the traditional stage design, which has the beauty of an Italian painting. The title role is played by Ildebrando D'Arcangelo, a popular Italian bass.Don Giovanni is his most popular role, and he has received rave reviews at the Berlin State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, and the Salzburg Festival in the summer of 2014, as well as a well-received tour of Japan with the Royal Opera House in 2015. He is a very attractive Don Giovanni with imposing singing and a strong physique. Andrea Concetti of Leporello is a bass born in Grottammare, Marche, Italy. He is very active as a mid-level basso bufo and sings Leporello frequently among others. Donna Elvira is Carmela Remigio, an Italian soprano well known in Japan. Mozart is her forte. Donna Anna's Milt Papathanas is a Greek-born soprano. Violetta in Verdi's "Traviata" was a hit role. She is also highly acclaimed for her performances of Mozart and Rossini. In Japan, she sang the Countess in "The Marriage of Figaro" at the New National Theatre in October 2010. She has also participated in a recording of "Don Giovanni" conducted by the Greek prodigy Kurrenzis.Zerlina Manuela Bichelier is a soprano born in Matera, southern Italy, known for its world heritage. She has a devilish charm, which Pizzi accentuates. Don Ottavio's Marlin Miller is an American tenor. He is an accomplished tenor with a very wide repertoire, and here, too, Don Ottervio is a Don Ottervio who exudes personality. Riccardo Frizza conducts the performance. His "Don Giovanni" has a tight and speedy sense of speed, but he manages to combine Italianate beauty with Mozart's style. King International
