Featuring Vasileva, Giordano, Stoyanov, Temirkanov, and others— An overwhelming “La Traviata” from the German-Italian Logb collaboration!! “La Traviata” is such a popular work that numerous video recordings are already available, but now an extremely noteworthy one has been added to the collection: the 2007 production at the Verdi Festival in Parma. It was a co-production by Rhein-Deutsches Oper, the Düsseldorf-Duisburg Joint Theater, and the Théâtre Monnaie in Brussels, staged in Parma. The production was directed by the Hermanns, Karl-Ernst and Ursel. While the Hermans are typically known for their modern stage designs with a relatively clean aesthetic, here they placed a strong emphasis on a somewhat realistic set design. Yet, by delving into the drama down to the finest details and leaving no room for ambiguity, they created a production that offered numerous eye-opening moments. On top of that, they incorporated innovative touches here and there, effectively bringing to the fore the issues Verdi embedded in the work. The magnificent production had even the most discerning Verdi connoisseurs in the Parma audience thoroughly captivated. Violetta is played by Svetla Vasileva, a Georgian soprano renowned for her beauty. She previously sang the role of Violetta during the 2001 May Festival in Florence’s tour to Japan, and here, six years later, we can see how much she has matured as a performer. Alfredo is played by Massimo Giordano, who has sung the role several times in Japan. He is perfectly cast in every respect for this role of the young aristocrat. Germont is portrayed by Vladimir Stoyanov, Bulgaria’s own Verdi baritone. He sings and acts this challenging role with exquisite balance. Flora is played by Daniela Pini, who caused quite a stir in 2011 with her portrayal of Dorabella in *Così fan tutte* at the New National Theatre.
