Verdi's controversial work "Stiffelio", new video! The amazing young conductor Battistoni gives a powerful performance! Japanese subtitles included! The new video of "Stiffelio," one of the most controversial Verdi operas of 2012, is now available. Stiffelio" was first performed in Trieste in November 1850. It was only four months before the great masterpiece "Rigoletto," and of course Verdi's music is substantial. The problem is its content. Stiffelio is torn between faith and righteous indignation when it is revealed that the wife of a Protestant priest, Stiffelio, has been unfaithful to Rina. Amidst the tragic circumstances in which the unfaithful partner is killed by Leena's father, Stiffelio forgives his wife's sins. Because of its austere content and the fact that the protagonist is a clergyman, the opera did not gain popularity, and Verdi later changed the setting and transformed it into an opera called "Aroldo," and "Stiffelio" ceased to be performed for nearly a hundred years.The complete score was discovered and revived in 1968, and in recent years, its ambitious content has been reevaluated, and opportunities to perform it have increased, with Stiffelio being a favorite of tenors such as Del Monaco, Carreras, Domingo, and Cura.
