"Ernani" in Parma, Reissued in the TuttoVerdi Series First Release on Blu-ray Disc ★The Verdi Festival in Parma is now a staple of the October calendar, but from 2004 to 2006, it was held from April through June. This release features a performance of “Ernani” from May 2005. Originally recorded by Dynamic and released on DVD (and CD), C-major has acquired the license and included it in the TuttoVerdi series. Marco Berti, who sings the title role, is now in high demand worldwide as a Verdi tenor. He was born in Como. It is still fresh in our memory how his performance as Radames in Verdi’s *Aida* at the New National Theatre in March 2008 was so highly acclaimed. Susan Nevis, who plays Elvira, is a New York-born soprano. While she excels in dramatic roles, she is also capable of coloratura, making her the perfect choice for the heroines of Verdi’s early works. Carlo Guelfi, who plays Don Carlo, is a baritone from Rome. He specializes in roles from Verdi through Verismo opera, particularly villains. Giacomo Prestia, who plays Silva, is a bass born in Florence in 1960. In a field where bass roles are often dominated by Eastern European singers, he is a rare talent carrying on the tradition of Italian basses. Conductor Antonello Allemandi is a veteran of Italian opera whose performances you can always count on. Pieralli’s staging makes effective use of a slanted backdrop while maintaining a clear and accessible overall presentation. “Ernani” is a work that, despite being relatively frequently staged, has few video recordings available, and this is the first-ever Blu-ray Disc release.
