Description:
The Vienna State Ballet, led by Legris, presents the classical ballet masterpiece *The Nutcracker* Performed in the version choreographed by Legris’s mentor, Nureyev A Japanese couple will also appear as soloists! “The Nutcracker,” one of Tchaikovsky’s three great ballet masterpieces, performed by the Vienna State Opera Ballet, with Manuel Legris serving as Artistic Director. The choreography is based on the 1985 Paris production by Rudolf Nureyev, one of the 20th century’s most iconic dancers and choreographers. Nureyev, a legendary dancer, discovered talents such as Sylvie Guillem and Manuel Legris when he assumed the role of Artistic Director of the Paris Opera. In the role of Clara is Lyudmila Konovalova, a dancer with dazzling technique who was promoted to principal in 2011. A distinctive feature of the Nureyev version is that the roles of Drosselmeyer and the Prince are combined into a single character. Vladimir Shishov, a dancer blessed with a tall stature and long limbs, masterfully portrays both the eerie, magical figure of Drosselmeyer and the dashing Prince. Nureyev conceived this ballet as a story of Clara’s journey from girlhood to womanhood, expressing this through the three pas de deux danced by the Prince and Clara. Furthermore, the Dance of the Whistling Flutes is performed by Kiyoka Hashimoto and Masayuu Kimoto, a married couple who have both been promoted to the rank of soloist. Kiyoka Hashimoto earned the position of soloist after being recognized by Artistic Director Legris for her performance as Clara in this production of “The Nutcracker.” The video also features children from the Vienna State Opera School appearing on stage, creating a warm and festive Christmas atmosphere.
