"Così fan tutte," directed by Michael Haneke, one of the leading filmmakers in contemporary European cinema, features a cast of many outstanding young singers. Conducted by Cambreling! Austrian film director Michael Haneke—renowned for films such as *The Pianist*, *Caché*, *The White Ribbon*, and *Amour*—has directed Mozart’s masterpiece *Così fan tutte*! Recorded live in March 2013 at the Teatro Real in Madrid, this is a co-production with the Théâtre Monnet. Haneke sets the action at a party in the mansion of a wealthy, modern-day Don Alfonso; the young people wear contemporary costumes, while Alfonso and others are dressed as aristocrats from Mozart’s era. On the left side of the stage hangs a massive, unfinished painting in the style of the 18th-century French painter Antoine Watteau, and Despina’s pure white costume is that of a jester named Gilles who appears in one of Watteau’s paintings. In this way, Haneke blends Mozart’s era (the Rococo period) with the present day, depicting love between men and women in his signature style. Even setting aside the finer details, it is a beautiful production, so you can fully enjoy it without delving too deeply into the meaning. King International
