Mahler (1860-1911)

Description:

Opening Concert of Salzburg Festival 2011Bohlez & Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra perform Mahler's "Lamentations "The opening concert of the Salzburg Festival 2011 has been released by Cmajor. The main program of the opening concert on July 28 was the cantata "Lamentations," which is also an important pillar of Boulez's conducting activities, and Berg's "Lulu Suite" and "Concert Aria 'Wein'". The program featured "Lamentations" for soloist, mixed chorus, and orchestra, a cantata composed by Mahler, a graduate of the Musikverein in Vienna, for the "Beethoven Prize," a composition competition for graduates of the Musikverein. The revision process of this work, which is also Mahler's debut, is somewhat convoluted after he was "unsuccessful".The first draft, written between 1878 and 1880, consisted of three parts: "The Forest Fairy Tale," "The Minstrel," and "The Wedding Event," but revisions were made intermittently around 1888, and finally the 1898/99 revised manuscript cut the first part, "The Forest Fairy Tale," and settled on a two-part structure. The final version in 1898/99 was in two parts. In this live performance, Boulez conducts the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in the revised version of "Lamentations," which he also recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra at Walthamstow Town Hall in 1969. Incidentally, Boulez also made a session recording of the first part of "Forest Fairy Tale" with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Watford Town Hall in 1970, which was also the world premiere recording of "Forest Fairy Tale".Boulez has already recorded all of Mahler's symphonies with the Vienna Philharmonic, including No. 6 in 1994, No. 5 in 1996, "Song of the Earth" in 1999, No. 3 in 2001, and No. 2 in 2005, the most in the series, showing a good chemistry. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra have recorded a total of five works together, the most in the series. King International
