This is the second live album released in 1971 and is popular among fans as "Skull and Roses" because of its iconic cover art. It is now being reissued on LP BRICK & MORTAR EXCLUSIVE! The Grateful Dead's second live album, released two years after their last album "Live/Dead," the band delivered a similarly epic, yet very different sound. Whereas LIVE/DEAD was the perfect sonic representation of the band at the height of the Primal Dead, SKULL & ROSES captured the essence of the quintet, the original five-piece band, playing some of its hardest rock and roll ("Johnny B. Goode," " Not Fade").authentic Bakersfield qualities ("Me & My Uncle," "Mama Tried," "Me & Bobby McGee"), and original songs that would play an important role in the Dead's live repertoire for the next 24 years ("Bertha," "Playing In The Band" and "Wharf Rat") that have remained an important part of the Dead's live repertoire for the next 24 years. Of course, the Dead are not defined by any particular sound, and among the aforementioned genres and styles the band brought to the album, they delved deep into their psychedelic and primitive playbook, dedicating an entire song to their 1968 masterpiece "The Other One". Along with Live/Dead's "Dark Star" and EUROPE '72's "Morning Dew," it is one of the deepest, richest, and most satisfying songs left on an official Grateful Dead album...
