The Book of Love, a synth-pop/electro-pop band from Philadelphia that was active in the 1980s and had numerous hits on the dance and club charts. The four-piece band—composed of three women and one man, all art school graduates—began performing in 1983 and released four studio albums between 1986 and 1993. Making full use of synthesizers and drum machines, they created anthems for queer and socially marginalized youth. Their landmark debut album, *BOOKOFLOVE*, released on April 1, 1986, is now available on a clear vinyl reissue to commemorate the 40th anniversary of its release. Selected as the opening act for Depeche Mode in 1985–86, the band generated a huge buzz with this album, which features “Boy” (No. 7 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart), “ITouchRoses” (No. 8 on the same chart), “You Make Me Feel So Good,” and “Modigliani (Lost in Your Eyes).” The *40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION* was remastered by Ted Jensen, who also served as the engineer on the original release. It features new artwork created in collaboration with the original art director, Nick Egan, and includes a 4-page insert with outtakes. The album also includes detailed liner notes by author and music historian Kurt B. Riley, featuring interviews with the original members.
