This is the first full-length album by UUHAI, a rising star of Mongolian metal music. The album has an extremely original sound, combining the dynamism of modern heavy rock with a focus on Khoomii (throat singing) and Matouqin, which are the key elements of traditional Mongolian music. What is distinctive throughout the album is the organic interplay of the hoomii's low frequencies, with their intense overtones, and the matouqin's roaring bottom, with thick electric guitar riffs, low center of gravity bass, and hard drums. In this way, the mystique of traditional music and the aggressiveness of rock do not clash, but rather blend together as one giant flow. The songs have a duality of "fast and furious" and "prayer," alternating between rhythms that seem to run across meadows and spellbinding melodies reminiscent of ancient rituals, or appearing at the same time. The call-and-response vocals heard throughout the album, especially on the title track, give a strong sense of tribal energy and add life to the soundscape. On the other hand, the guitar solos and melodic parts also show a sophisticated expression of modern rock, giving the album a wide range of expressive power. In general, "Human Herds" is an album that does not treat traditional instruments as mere "decoration" but has the power to reconstruct the very foundation of rock music itself.
