Beginning with an overture renowned for its beautiful melodies, this grand production unfolds a drama of people tossed about by a cruel fate, accompanied by iconic musical themes. Conducted by Music Director Riccardo Chailly, this production—featuring a star-studded cast led by Anna Netrebko and Ludovic Téjié—has captured the attention of opera fans worldwide. Among La Scala’s many legendary productions, this performance stands out for its exceptional musical energy. Netrebko, in the role of Leonora, displays an overwhelming presence, captivating the audience with her beautiful high notes and superb breath control. Her aria “Grant Me Peace, O God” in the final act is particularly memorable. Brian Jagde (Don Alvaro) and Ludovic Téjié (Don Carlo) also deliver compelling performances with deep expressiveness and rich voices. Director Leo Muscat adopts a bold interpretation, setting every scene on a battlefield. Through a set meticulously crafted down to the finest details, he drives home the message that war is deeply intertwined with human destiny.
