The production is directed by the visionary Barry Kosky, who has made his mark at major European opera houses as well as the Bayreuth and Salzburg festivals. Premiered in June 2024, this production generated significant buzz for its reimagining of the elderly philosopher Don Alfonso as a director rehearsing an “experimental” stage play with two young couples. Christopher Maltman skillfully portrays the cynical Alfonso, while Kate Lindsay’s languid Despina adds a touch of wit to the story. Federica Lombardi as Fiordiligi and Emily D’Angelo as Dorabella have exceptional vocal chemistry, while Peter Kerner and Philippe Manou as Guglielmo and Ferrando form a vibrant ensemble.
