Master Ballet Adaptation of Tennessee Williams' Play "The Glass Menagerie" by John Neumeier The ballet features music by Charles Ives, Philip Glass and Ned Rorem. The delicate dance expresses the subtleties of Alina Cojocaru's heart. John Neumeier, a master of ballet, has been the artistic director of the Hamburg Ballet since 1973, and retired at the end of the 2023/24 season. In 2023, the 50th anniversary of his tenure, the long-awaited tour of Japan was realized, with "The World of John Neumeier" Edition 2023 and "Sylvia" being performed. This video is from "The Glass Menagerie," the final piece performed at the 48th Hamburg Ballet Week, which concluded the 50th anniversary season. Based on The Glass Zoo, published by American playwright Tennessee Williams when he was 34 years old, the work was created in 2019 for Alina Cojocaru, a longtime principal of the Royal Ballet in England. A family story set in 1930s St. Louis, the production is richly autobiographical in color, with Tennessee Williams.Amanda, a mother with excessive expectations for her children's future, Tom, a son who supports the family in place of his father who has run away from home, and Laura, a daughter who is introverted due to her crippled legs and only allows her small glasswork animals that she collects to be her heart. When Tom's colleague Jim is invited to the house to marry Laura, the closed-off family begins to move.... The interaction between the three family members, who are as fragile and fragile as glasswork, is delicately and nostalgically portrayed, and the beautiful dance that embodies the psychological portrayal of the four dancers who play Laura, Amanda, Tom, and Jim is a complete stage performance to be enjoyed.
