Description:

Hélène Grimaud & Camerata Salzburg's unforgettable one-night concert at the Elbphilharmonie is now available on Blu-ray & DVD! Hélène Grimaud and Camerata Salzburg's unforgettable one-night concert at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. The works Grimaud chose for this concert are concertos in minor by both Mozart and Schumann, composed during their most creative periods as composers. Grimaud says the reason for his selection is that "Mozart's few works in minor keys offer a glimpse of the other side of the face behind the cheerfulness that surrounds his famous works." Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 is one of his most famous piano concertos, and it is also the first piece in a minor key that Mozart composed. It is a work with familiar melodies, substantial music, and, as Grimaud says, Mozart's human touch. Grimaud's light, delicate, yet unwavering touch gives the music a solid core. The accompaniment by Camerata Salzburg is also soft and lively, and the performance has a lot of thrust.Schumann's only completed piano concerto was premiered by his wife Clara. The dramatic piano at the beginning and the melancholy oboe play the theme, which is then taken over by the piano. It is a fascinating piece, no matter how many times you hear it. Grimaud's Schumann concertos have been recorded by the Deutsche Symphonieorchester Berlin with Zinman conducting (1995) and by the Staatskapelle Dresden with Salonen conducting (2005), both of which are masterful performances full of romanticism. Grimaud's fresh, emotional, and beautiful performance and his exquisite interplay with the Camerata Salzburg are also worth listening to. The encore performance was "The Messenger" by Valentin Silvestrov, a great active Ukrainian composer whom Grimaud has been focusing on in recent years. The work for piano and strings is dedicated to Silvestrov's late wife, Larissa Bondarenko. King International
