The Cleveland Orchestra’s In-House Label, TCO (The Cleveland Orchestra), Launches! The Cleveland Orchestra has launched its own in-house label! It’s called “TCO (The Cleveland Orchestra).” Needless to say, the Cleveland Orchestra is one of the “Big Five” in the United States and ranks among the world’s leading orchestras. Founded in 1918, it has already reached its 100th anniversary, and as the orchestra enters a new century, it has decided to launch its own label. The release is a three-disc set conducted by the orchestra’s current music director, Franz Welser-Möst, who also curated the program. It features a selection of the finest, most outstanding performances from their collaboration over the past two decades. Franz Welser-Möst, the current music director, has held this position since 2002. *The Times* has praised the Cleveland Orchestra under Möst for its virtuosity, elegance of sound, rich color, and chamber-like musical cohesion, hailing it as “America’s best orchestra.” Under Mest, the orchestra has expanded its repertoire to include challenging programs, actively pursued commissions, and increased its opera productions, while also attracting a younger audience. With its robust education programs, it can truly be called a world-leading orchestra. In addition to numerous guest appearances with the Vienna Philharmonic, Mest served as Music Director of the Vienna State Opera (2010–2014) and held the position of Music Director at the Zurich Opera House for many years. His achievements are highly regarded worldwide; he has been awarded the Kileny Medal by the Bruckner Church and the Kennedy Center’s Gold Medal for the Arts, among other honors. The orchestra’s past music directors include Nikolai Sokoloff (1918–33), Artur Rodzinski (1933–43), Erich Leinsdorf (1943–46), George Szell (1946–70), Lorin Maazel (1972–82), and Kristóf von Dohnányi (1984–2002).
