Savarisch 1999 "The Creation"! From the Florence May Festival label comes Savarisch's Haydn "The Creation"! This is the last performance of the Florence May Festival for Sawallisch. The "Four Seasons" Haydn oratorio conducted by Sawallisch was previously released on Profil (PH07020), and here comes the rare appearance of "The Creation". In 1958, Sawallisch made his debut at the Florence May Festival, conducting Mozart's Symphony No. 31 and Beethoven's Eroica, as well as works by Bucchi, a composer active in Florence at the time. Since then, he has appeared with Bruckner's Romantic (1969) and others. This performance is the quintessence of Savarisch, who was a German music orthodoxy and also an unparalleled conductor of vocal music.In June 1999, Sawallisch was 75 years old (born in August 1923), and in 1998, he lost his wife of many years, which was a great shock to him. It is hard to believe that this was a live performance. In fact, some of the orchestra members who were performing at the time said they could not forget the overwhelming presence of Sawallisch at that time and his professorial-like atmosphere. It is said that while Savarisch demanded high level of performance from the orchestra members during rehearsals, he never forgot his sense of humor.
