Julie Byrne completes her new album, more than six years after her successful last album. The Greater Wings, her third album, which she began production on with the late Eric Littman and completed with Alex Sommers (Sigur Ros, Juliana Berwick), is now available. The first album by American songwriter Julie Byrne in over six years is a testament to perseverance and determination, the desolation of loss, the vitality of renewal, and courage Byrne has been a private artist, out of the public eye, for nearly a decade. Self-taught in music and having dedicated her life to her work, she has now emerged from a deeply trying and generative period to produce The Greater Wings, the most powerful, lustrous, and life-affirming work of her career. On the album, the lush and exciting songwriting is driven by finger-picked guitars, synthesizers, and the newly introduced flourishes of piano, harp, and strings.The songs were written over several seasons, inspired by nights on the road, periods of solitude, and cross-country drives to Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles for various collaborations. She confesses that the success of her last album, Not Even Happiness, was unexpected, but its quiet closing track, "I Live Now As A Singer," foreshadowed certain intentions. She knew that the song's open space presented something new and thrilling, something that would be understood as a catalyst for the work to come. And The Greater Wings is built on this revelatory space at every turn. Recording began with the late Eric Littmann, her longtime creative partner and producer of Not Even Happiness. It was finished at Catskills in New York City with producer Alex Somers (Sigur Ros, Julianna Barwick).
