A 2-LP set on silver and black vinyl. CAMSugar is releasing the definitive edition of the soundtrack to Franco Rossi’s film *SMOG* (composed and conducted by Piero Umiliiani). This is an expanded edition featuring seven previously unreleased tracks. Composed and recorded in Rome in 1962, this score captures the extraordinary collaboration between Piero Umiliiani and jazz legend Chet Baker, and features the iconic vocals of Helen Merrill. Blending Italian film music with the sensibilities of West Coast jazz, *SMOG* portrays both the alienation and allure of the American Dream. As the first Italian film shot in the United States, it stands as one of the most sophisticated and visionary depictions of early 1960s Los Angeles and has now been restored by the Cineteca di Bologna. This new edition is the result of meticulous research and restoration of CAMSugar’s archival materials, revealing a wealth of previously unreleased musical treasures. Through the release of *SMOG*, CAMSugar continues to fulfill its mission of preserving the legacy of Italian film music by reissuing this monumental work in its most complete form. The “Archivio Segreto” series, available as a 2-LP set and a 2-CD set, reveals previously unknown recordings, including studio takes, alternate versions, and insights that shed light on the composer’s creative process. Released to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Piero Umiliani’s birth, this release serves as both a tribute and an opportunity for rediscovery. In addition to newly written liner notes by Larry Karaszewski, the album includes personal recollections from the composer’s daughters, offering a rare glimpse into the artistic partnership behind the creation of this iconic score.
