Eloise Werner's second album! Born in Paris in 1991, London-based soprano and composer Eloise Werner is the co-director of "The Harms Experiment," a contemporary ensemble formed in 2013 with the unique combination of harp, clarinet, soprano, and double bass. She is co-director of "The Harms Experiment" and has been an associate artist at Wigmore Hall since 2023. His debut solo album, "Phrases" (DCD34269), was nominated for a Gramophone Award 2023 in the Contemporary Music category, and has also received the BBC Music Magazine's Choral & Song Choice, The Sunday Times' 10 Best Classical Albums of 2022" by BBC Music Magazine, "10 Best Classical Albums of 2022" by the Sunday Times, "Editor's Choice" by Presto, and others.On her long-awaited second album, "close-ups," Werner combines works by great women musicians, including Julie Pinel of 18th century France, Barbara Strozzi of the Italian Baroque period, and Hildegard von Bingen of medieval Germany, with Werner's own compositions and three "echoes" composed by Werner and her collaborators. ECM jazz pianist Kit Downes (on cello this time!), principal of the Aurora Orchestra, and the ECM Jazz Pianist, will join Werner in a program that tells a coherent story. The program is a wonderful collaboration of up-and-coming young artists, including ECM jazz pianist and popular ECM jazz pianist Kit Downes (this time on cello!), Aurora Orchestra principal viola player Ruth Gibson, Manchester Camerata principal cello player Colin Alexander, and Hermes Experiment fellow Marianne Schofield.
