Description:

The second installment of the YCAT series, dedicated to discovering young talent! Benjamin Baker, first-place winner of the 2016 Young Concert Artists International Auditions! Three violin sonatas that all share the year “1942.” Delphian, the first full-fledged classical label based in Edinburgh—which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2020—has partnered with the British artist management organization “YCAT (Young Classical Artists Trust),” which has discovered such outstanding talents as Sean Sibey, Peter Moore, the Doric String Quartet, and Timothy Ridout—has partnered with YCAT (Young Classical Artists Trust), a British artist management organization that has unearthed these remarkable talents. The second release in the collaborative series between Delphian and YCAT—which plans to release albums by nine artists over the next three years—features New Zealand-born violinist Benjamin Baker! Benjamin Baker, who won first prize at the Young Concert Artists International Auditions held in New York in 2016 and third prize at the Michael Hill Competition held in New Zealand in 2017, has expanded his international activities beyond Europe to include the United States, Colombia, China, Argentina, Lebanon, and Australia. This collection of violin sonatas, presented alongside his regular duo partner Daniel Lepphardt (first-place winner at the 2014 Young Concert Artists International Auditions), features sonatas by Prokofiev, Copland, and Poulenc—composers from different countries and with diverse styles. With a delicate yet passionate tone, they bring to life these three distinctive sonatas, all of which share the common thread of having been “begun in 1942” (and having been influenced, to no small extent, by World War II).
