A live performance by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, featuring an all-star lineup of conductors: Andrew Davis, Edward Gardner, and David Robertson! Raymond Yiu was born in Hong Kong in 1973 and moved to London in his late teens. He is a composer, jazz pianist, conductor, and music writer who taught himself composition and has developed a unique style that is both sophisticated and boldly eclectic. Raymond Yiu’s collection of orchestral works, released by Delphian, features three live recordings (all world premiere recordings, of course) performed by an all-star lineup of artists including Andrew Davis, Edward Gardner, David Robertson, Andrew Watts, and Roderick Williams. “The London Citizen Exceedingly Injured,” Raymond Yu’s first major orchestral work, was nominated for the British Composers’ Prize (now the Iverson Composition Prize) in 2013. “Symphony,” commissioned for the 2015 BBC Proms and premiered by Gardner at the Proms to great acclaim. And “The World Was Once All Miracle,” a song cycle for baritone and orchestra, composed to mark the 100th anniversary of Anthony Burgess’s birth on commission from the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, premiered at the Manchester International Music Festival 2017, and nominated for the 2018 Royal Philharmonic Society Award (Large-Scale Composition category).
