John MacLeod (b. 1934) is a Scottish composer who studied under Lennox Berkeley at the Royal Academy of Music. This album features John MacLeod’s orchestral works, including the “Percussion Concerto,” written for Evelyn Glennie in 1987. In addition to the “Percussion Concerto,” presented through Evelyn Glennie’s breathtaking performance, the album features a lineup of captivating orchestral works, including “The Shostakovich Connection”—influenced by Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5—and “Out of the Silence,” which pays homage to Nielsen and Sibelius, and “Hebridian Dance,” which incorporates folk songs from the Hebrides in Scotland—this album features a compelling lineup of orchestral works.
