A collection of 20th-century French sacred choral works featuring the “Requiem” by Alfred Desenclos (1912–1971)—a winner of the Prix de Rome and known for his works for saxophone—along with music by Poulenc and Villette. Completed in 1963 and following the traditional French “Requiem” form, Desenclos’s “Requiem” is a little-known 20th-century masterpiece that combines a serene sound, reminiscent of Gregorian chant, with richly colored harmonies. Conducting the choir of the prestigious King’s College London is David Trendel, who took up the post of music director and organist in 1992. The harmonies of this select group of elite singers convey the true value of Desenclos’s “Requiem,” a work known only to connoisseurs. Tokyo M-Plus
