Philip Glass / “Les Enfants Terribles” The original title, “Les Enfants Terribles,” refers to Jean Cocteau’s famous novel *Les Enfants Terribles*, and Glass has teamed up with Susan Graham—who leads her own company and is active on the New York dance scene—to reimagine Cocteau’s unique world, colored by death, decadence, and unbridled imagination, as a “dance opera.” The ensemble consists of three pianos and four singers and dancers. The eight singers and dancers adopt a unique structure in which they portray the novel’s two protagonists—Paul and Elisabeth, a brother and sister who are precocious yet innocent and who indulge in fantasies that eventually lead to their deaths—sometimes taking turns and sometimes performing together.
