Description:

Accardo plays Bernstein & Penderecki! A 20th century violin concerto solo by Accardo and conducted by Penderecki! Bernstein's "Serenade for Violin Solo, Strings, Harp and Percussion" (1954) is an unusual five-movement violin concerto based on Plato's "Feast," with each movement named after a person, including Aristophanes and Socrates. The premiere was conducted by Isaac Stern and Igor Stravinsky. The work is also famous for the "Miracle at Tanglewood" episode in which Midori Goto cut the strings twice but played it through. Here, Accardo showed off his brilliant playing and successfully expressed the jazz atmosphere of the work. Penderecki's Violin Concerto, an introspective work composed between 1974 and 1976, was also premiered by Isaac Stern. On this album, under the composer's own baton, Accardo delivers a solo of great depth. Tokyo M-Plus
