This album features art songs by three female composers active from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. Amy Beach was an American composer and pianist. In addition to art songs, her works include symphonies, piano concertos, and chamber music. She is known for her delicate style, which incorporates elements of English folk songs while drawing influence from composers such as Brahms, Wagner, and Franck. Cécile Chaminade was a French composer. While her Concertino for Flute and Orchestra remains a staple of the flute repertoire to this day, she also composed numerous works of ballet music, chamber music, and piano pieces. Her songs convey the glamorous atmosphere of the late 19th century with their sweet melodies. Gilda Ruta was an Italian composer. She studied under the opera composer Mercadante and, although she was primarily active as a pianist during her lifetime, she composed many piano pieces and art songs. The highlight of her music is the clear, lyrical, and rich melodies she inherited from her mentor, Mercadante. Tobu Shoji Co., Ltd.
