Description:
Amy Beach is an American female composer whose work has been under review in recent years. During her lifetime, her work as a composer and pianist was international. Her style is romantic and lyrical, combining the best of Brahms and Wagner, and has an air of folk song with English roots. This album is full of the essence of such a composer. Beach was also a very active pianist, but his works are colorful and not super-technical. Sprague's performance is also highly sympathetic to the composer and full of tenderness. I recommend this CD as an introduction to Beach as a composer. Katia Spruga studied at the Conservatorio di Musica di Parma, where she continued her studies after a period of distance from the works of the 20th century. She holds a master's degree in psychology and music therapy and studies the connection between music and emotions. She is especially passionate about music for young children, and in 2022 she and violist Matteo Amadaj released a duo collection of Beach's viola works (STR 37259). Tobu Shoji Co.
