Description:

Giacomo Manzoni is an Italian composer who represents a generation slightly after Luigi NONO and Bruno MADERNA. He was friends with Franco Donatoni and Niccolò Castiglioni, and their works influenced each other. Mantzoni's works have been widely performed by Claudio Abbado, Giuseppe Sinopoli, and Maurizio Pollini, among others. In "Emily Dickinson's Poem," the soprano's prayerful voice was impressive while the ensemble was at its weakest throughout. Beckett's Poem" is a work for ensemble and chorus with tape music, perhaps influenced by NONO. Here, too, the orchestra is at its weakest throughout, and the chorus attempts to express the world of Beckett's special poetry by using a variety of chanting techniques, such as moaning, whispering, and sometimes shouting.
