Salzedo, Carlos (1885-1961)

Description:

This is a collection of unaccompanied harp works by Carlos Salcedo (1885-1961), known for his dramatic development of harp music in the 20th century. Salcedo was born in Arcachon, France. As his name suggests, he is of Spanish descent. He won first prizes for harp and piano at the Paris Conservatory. His reputation as a harpist is not limited to Europe; Arturo Toscanini even invited him to perform at the Metropolitan Opera. Jazz saxophonist John Coltrane also cited Salcedo as one of the musicians he admired. In his later life, he emigrated to the United States, where he also worked as an educator. Salcedo's works are wonderful, sometimes innovative and highly technical, but always accessible music. It would be a shame to leave these pieces for harp lovers only, and those who enjoy modern piano music will definitely like them. Antonella Ciccozzi is a harpist born in L'Aquila, Italy. In addition to being a soloist, she also teaches harp at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence. Tobu Land System
