World-renowned flutist Caroli came to Japan and recorded this masterpiece collection of flute masterpieces at Akiyoshidai! A must have for flute fans and learners! Mario Caroli was born in Italy in 1974 and made his international debut at the age of 22, winning the Kranichsteiner Music Prize at the Darmstadt Music Festival. He has been commissioned by many contemporary composers to premiere their new works. He has performed with conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, Heinz Holliger, Osvald Thalerberger, Hiroshi Wakasugi, Jonathan Webb, and Kazushi Ohno, and has been called a "great expressionist" by Maurizio Pollini and Emmanuelle Payu, and a "great composer" by composer Salvatore Sciarrino. Salvatore Sciarrino has described him as "the Paganini of flutes.He is also active as an educator, and has been invited as a jury member to the Biwako International Flute Competition and the Rampal International Flute Competition, and teaches at the graduate school of the Conservatoire National de Musique in Strasbourg. This album was recorded in Akiyoshidai, Yamaguchi Prefecture, during a visit to Japan in 2013.
