Description:

Squarepusher’s debut album—a timeless masterpiece—is set for a long-awaited remastered reissue to commemorate its 25th anniversary! *Feed Me Weird Things* is the groundbreaking debut album by the visionary Squarepusher, a timeless masterpiece that had a profound influence on the music scene that followed. Originally released in 1996 on *Rephlex*, the label founded by Richard D. James (a.k.a. Aphex Twin), this album—which has not been available on CD, LP, streaming, or digital download for over a decade—is set for re-release on June 4, exactly 25 years after its original release! While his 2020 album *BeUpAHello* drew attention for its heavy use of ’90s equipment, listening to *FeedMeWeirdThings*—which includes tracks he created at the age of just 19—makes it clear that the raw creative impulse of that era still drives him today, enabling him to continue producing groundbreaking work. Supervised by Squarepusher himself, the audio for this reissue has been remastered from the original DAT tapes and includes the two tracks “Theme From Goodbye Renaldo” and “Deep Fried Pizza,” which were originally featured on the B-side of the EP *Squarepusher Plays…*, released around the same time. The 16-page expanded booklet features self-written liner notes reflecting on the production period, track-by-track commentary by the artist himself—including details on the equipment used—as well as rare photographs and notes from that era, shedding light on the background of his early career. Amid the electronic music scene of that time, when various subgenres were emerging, one of the reasons this album radiates such a special brilliance and stands apart from other excellent works by contemporary artists is that it was the first release in which Tom Jenkinson—heavily influenced by jazz—achieved an innovative fusion of jazz and electronics and showcased his exceptional bass playing. While the intricately structured beats—which at times unfold at breakneck speed—provide a thrilling stimulus, his already fully developed bass playing resonates in a pleasant and captivating way, captivating all fans of avant-garde music.
