In his own work, he presents stimulating visions and sounds with every album, and as a producer, he has been involved in pivotal and defining works by various artists, including The Weeknd and Moses Sumney. OPN—Lopatin’s core project—is a retrospective on its origins, a culmination of his work, and at the same time, his latest offering: his fourth album on Warp, *MagicOneohtrixPointNever*. Drawing inspiration from the origin of the name OPN, this album simulates the experience of listening to a single radio station that begins in the morning and continues through the night until it ends. It starts with a morning greeting, features snippets of pop music in the middle, and builds toward a deeper, more immersive experience as it nears its conclusion. Yet, true to OPN’s style, it is replete with glitches and a sense of the alien—samples of old American FM jingles and DJ catchphrases clash with New Age self-help mantras, creating a sense of dark humor. It features elements ranging from the deconstructed New Age sample collage masterpiece *Replica* to the serene melodies of *RPlusSeven*—OPN’s debut on *Warp* that brought the group widespread recognition—and the powerful noise of *Returnal*, the conscious engagement with pop music on *GardenOfDelete* and *AgeOf*, and the symphonic structures reminiscent of film scores—OPN moves freely between these musical elements from their discography, yet they are strangely unified under the concept of a fictional radio station. As the world is engulfed by the strange reality of a global pandemic, and many people lose all contact with the outside world except through the internet, Lopatin continues to offer sharp critiques of the present through *MagicOneohtrixPointNever*, a fictional radio broadcast featuring fake New Age music and soft rock. The striking artwork was created by Robert Beatty, a longtime friend of Lopatin’s whom he met through their involvement in the noise scene. This is a collaboration between OPN and Beatty, who is known for his psychedelic artwork on albums such as Tame Impala’s *Currents* and Kesha’s *Rainbow*.
