When one thinks of Respighi, the first thing that comes to mind is probably the "Roman Trilogy". However, Respighi, a master of orchestration who could make an orchestra sound so brilliantly, left behind many other masterpieces. Among them, this album features works for flute and orchestra. The flute is played by Roberto Fabriziani, a leading figure in the Italian flute world. His technique and richness of tone are still alive and well. The three early works, composed between 1902 and 1905, are simple but colorful, as is typical of Respighi. The Suite "Birds," composed in 1928, is a small but very enjoyable piece that is full of youthful, romantic atmosphere and Fabriziani's flute. The Suite "Birds" (1928), composed in 1928, is a masterful use of the old musical sounds, fully demonstrating Respighi's Renaissance and Baroque influences.It is one of Respighi's masterpieces, calculated to the last detail, and was to be performed in the last years of his life.
