Description:
A tale set in the Kingdom of Is in the region of Brittany. After a peace treaty is signed with a nation with which Is had long been at odds, it is decided that Princess Marguerite of Is will marry Prince Carnac of the rival kingdom. However, Marguerite’s heart belongs to her childhood friend Milio, who is currently missing. Margaret’s younger sister, Rosen, also loves Milio, but neither of them is aware of the other’s feelings. Just before the wedding ceremony begins, Milio returns. Upon learning this, Margaret’s emotions are thrown into turmoil, and she refuses to marry Carnac. This leads to a severe rift between the two nations. Then, upon learning that it is Rosen whom Milio loves, Margarete mocks God and plots her revenge… Conductor Davan has served as the music director of this theater since 2008. He is known for his dramatic sound design and his ability to draw deep romanticism from the music (with a particular focus on the deep timbre of the cello), earning him great acclaim from audiences. In previously released footage, the singers’ skills—including their stunning appearances—have been highly praised, but listening to the music on its own like this, one cannot help but be impressed anew by their delicate yet dramatic expression. The character portrayals may seem slightly lighter compared to operas by Wagner and others, but it is precisely this simplicity that represents the true essence of French opera. Naxos Japan
