Description:
Giuseppe Tartini (1692–1770), an Italian Baroque composer and violinist. Triggered by a romantic entanglement with a woman, he joined the Order of St. Francis in Assisi, where he began to play the violin in earnest. However, after hearing Veracini play, he became dissatisfied with his own technique and began practicing intensely. It was then that his natural talent truly blossomed, and his masterful playing became known throughout Europe. While Tartini’s most famous violin work is undoubtedly the solo sonata “The Devil’s Trill,” it is no exaggeration to say that his 125 (published) violin concertos are what truly reveal his essence. These works embody the full scope of his technique and music, and by carefully studying them, it is possible to gain a comprehensive understanding of the compositional styles and musical sensibilities of the time. That said, the exact dates of composition for his works are unknown (as the scores lack written dates and were often subject to later additions and revisions), which has posed a challenge for researchers; however, distinguished scholars have attempted to estimate the dates and classify these works by considering stylistic and other characteristics. For now, why not give these violin concertos a listen and see what impressions they evoke? The performance by L’Arte del Arco and Giovanni Guglielmo is full of conviction. Naxos Japan
