*La Tilda*, famous for its aria in Act III. Although this is Cilea’s second opera, this is the first-ever complete recording of the work. While *Adriana Lecouvreur* is his most famous work, Cilea is known for his sparse output. In 1915, during World War I, a fire reduced the score and orchestral parts to ashes, leaving only an arrangement for voice and piano for posterity. In his later years, Cilea spoke highly of this early work. “Apart from a few revisions to the libretto, the score is organic, rich in melody, and written with an excellent intuitive sense of drama.” He even dreamed of revising it, but never realized that intention. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Giancosimo Russo, who thoroughly reconstructed the orchestration based on musicological grounds that took into account the composer’s style, the demands of Verismo, and the orchestral conventions of the time, we can once again enjoy this little gem of Italy’s illustrious operatic tradition.
