ZOLDER ELLIPSIS is a band formed by Tom Aldrich, a keyboardist from the U.S. who is now based in the Netherlands, and other jazz musicians such as Sean Moran (g) and Chad Langford (b), both guitarists from the U.S. The band's second album "IL LIBRO DEI TROPI" is now available from Lizard, Italy. After the experience of the previous album, which featured genre-less and cutting-edge avant-rock that easily straddled post-metal, electronica, ambient, and free jazz based on progressive rock methodology, the band has now moderated the inflected arrangements that were prominent in the previous album and has returned to Tom's roots of contemporary jazz. The sound has changed to a more stoic and stylish one, returning to Tom's roots in contemporary jazz, while also approaching the Canterbury sound and fusion.The band's diverse repertoire includes "Night Crossing," a manic Zappa/U.S. record label-style mass rock track with a rhythm section and cheap keyboard sounds intertwined in odd time signatures; "Lydian," a pan-Mediterranean jazz number with female vocalist Esther Mugambi as a guest; "The Purge," a fusion of Canterbury sounds and modern heavy psychedelic music; and "Grid and Meridian," a variety of tracks that further expand the band's possibilities.
