The King's Consort's Purcell releases began with the first volume of Purcell's Odes, recorded in 1988, followed by the then little-known complete Purcell Odes in Volume 8 (CDS44031/8), and then the complete works of Purcell's Religious Music in Volume 7 (CDS44031/9). Subsequently, a series of recordings of Purcell's complete religious music (CDS44141/51) and complete secular solo songs (CDS44161/3) took the ancient music world by storm and made the King's Consort known as specialists in Purcell. Thirty-two years later, a recording session was arranged during the fall 2020 pandemic lockdown, resulting in a new Purcell recording by King's Consort.Three outstanding odes to King James II and Queen Mary by Carolyn Sampson, Yestyn Davies, Charles Daniels, Matthew Brook, and other superb old-time singers who have recorded and performed Purcell for 20 years with King's Consort (Daniels was also participated in the recording of the first volume of the Ode Collection!) ) and an elite ensemble led by Kati Debreceni."
