Description:

Robert King & King's Consort New Recording! Purcell & Blow, sung by Justin Davis! Vivat, the independent label launched in 2013 by the British masters of ancient music Robert King and King's Consort, presents a new recording of Henry Purcell, one of King's Consort's most accomplished composers. Featuring British countertenor Yestyn Davies, widely regarded as one of the world's finest singers for his beautifully dexterous voice and intelligent musicianship, along with outstanding young countertenor James Hall, Purcell and John Blow The program will feature solos and duets for countertenor composed by Purcell and John Blow. The centerpiece of the program will be three elegies composed in memory of the untimely death of Queen Mary (Mary II). Two of them are based on the same text, with music in Latin by Purcell and in English by Blow. Other pieces include Purcell's famous "Blow Your Trumpet" and a lesser-known duet, and conclude with John Blow's masterpiece "Ode on the Death of Mr. Purcell" (Ode to Mr. Purcell).Another key feature is the warm, transparent acoustic sound recorded at Alpheton New Maltings, a new world-class recording venue.
