PRISON is a New York-based psychedelic jam collective centered around PAULMAJOR (guitar/vocals) of ENDLESSBOOGIE, SARIMAL-RAWI (guitar/vocals) of LIQUORSTORE, and MATTLILLY (drums). With their 2023 album *UPSTATE* and 2025 album *DOWNSTATE*, they have set themselves apart in the contemporary underground scene by colliding unpredictable improvisation with raw garage rock energy. Released in 2026—about a year after their previous album—this work is the result of sessions held at a studio in Sunset Park overlooking the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Recorded with a lineup featuring MIKEDONOVAN on fuzz organ, RYANSAWYER on percussion, MATT LEIBOWITZ on bass and synthesizer, and ADAM REICH on guitar—who also served as engineer—to capture the sensation of an endless road trip that resonates with the highway’s clamor. Starting with “SUNRISEHIGHWAY,” where high-speed, dancing noise guitars and repetitive beats slice through the air, the unpredictable ensemble creates psychedelic reverberations while the concentrated heat of garage punk explodes, All three tracks are imbued with the raw energy of live improvisation. While inheriting the spirit of the Velvet Underground and CAN, the band unfolds an overwhelming sonic experience that repaints the space with its own unique noise and groove. This marks the band’s new pinnacle, reached at the end of an endless jam session. This album captures the most dangerous and thrilling moments in contemporary psychedelic rock.
