Description:

Beethoven Kicks Off with OSM Conductor! Charles Richard-Amran, a young Canadian pianist who won second place and the Sonata Prize (Christian Zimmermann Prize) at the 17th International Chopin Piano Competition in 2015, has rapidly established himself as a world-class pianist, raising his profile and presence on the international stage. He has performed in Japan every year since 2016, garnering tremendous acclaim at each concert. In 2018, he visited Japan in January and May. Following his “Late Piano Works” by Chopin (PAN29127/AN29127) and and the “Quebec Live” album (PAN29129/AN29129). This third album from Analekta features Beethoven, performed in collaboration with Andrew Wang, the concertmaster of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal (OSM)! Andrew Wang is a graduate of The Juilliard School. As of 2018, he serves as an associate professor of violin at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, as well as artistic director of the OSM Chamber Soloists and the Prince Edward County Chamber Music Festival. He was appointed concertmaster of the prestigious Montreal Symphony Orchestra in 2008 and has performed with world-renowned conductors and soloists. He has released a live recording of the complete Saint-Saëns Violin Concertos (AN28770) on the Analekta label, performed with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Kent Nagano. Andrew Wang and Charles-Richard-Hamelin, Canada’s hottest duo of the moment, have begun recording the complete violin sonatas of the great Beethoven. The first release features three works from Opus 30—Sonata No. 6, which reveals a quiet side; Sonata No. 7, which lays bare intense anguish; and Sonata No. 8, brimming with humor and charm—all of which reflect various facets of Beethoven’s rich personality.
