Formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, the indie avant-garde jazz collective DOGFACEDHERMANS stood out for vocalist MARIONCOUTTS’s overwhelming charisma and their unique instrumentation, which included a trumpet. Their collaboration with the Dutch legends THEEX and their DIY-driven political stance went on to profoundly influence many artists, including GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR. A masterpiece and signature work released in 1989, when the impulse of punk and the chaos of free jazz reached their peak. This legendary recording, long out of print and extremely difficult to obtain, has been reissued with a new remaster that enhances its depth and punch without compromising the wildness of the original analog sound. Featuring seven tracks that dissolve genre boundaries—including "NEWSHOOTS," where jagged guitar work and a hard-hitting bassline slice through the air; "SCOTTISHBLOCK," with its wildly spinning irregular rhythms; and "LIVEACTION," where a sense of liberation explodes with energy—this album sublimates destructive noise into art and transforms voices of protest into intense rhythms, a burst of energy that still overwhelms listeners today. A landmark album that continues to prove the true meaning of musical freedom through its raw soundscapes. Echoing the spirit of Chumbawamba and Riprig+Panic, this is a record of liberation dedicated to all listeners seeking innovative sounds. Although digitally reissued in 2020, this marks the first physical reissue since the original release.
