Description:

Andrea Centazzo, an Italian-born American percussionist and composer, has remained at the forefront of Italy's and Europe's free improvisation, minimal music, and avant-jazz scenes from the 1970s to the present day, notably through collaborations with Steve Lacy, Evan Parker, and Lol Coxhill. His 1976 album 'ELECTRONIC MIND WAVE', released under the alias ELEKTRIKTUS on the prestigious PDU label, stands as the culmination of his electronic music experiments. Conducted in his home studio during the early 70s alongside his live performances, these experiments were inspired by the contemporary Krautrock movement and utilized synthesizers like the Minimoog and Davolisint alongside a 4-track recorder. This album is now being reissued on vinyl in a limited edition of 250 copies by the avant-garde music label Ictus Records, run by Andrea Centazzo and Carla Lugli. Carla Lugli's avant-garde music label: Ictus Records. While primarily featuring amorphous, dreamlike electronic sounds with undulating, spacey synths reminiscent of an Italian version of "Kosmische Musik," the druggy feel characteristic of authentic German works like those by THE COSMIC JOKERS/Conrad Schnitzler is surprisingly sparse. Tracks like "First Wave," featuring Andrea's close collaborator, double bassist Franco Feruglio, "Flying At Sunset," where strings-like synths seem to express the poignancy of dusk perfectly match the laid-back drums. Many tracks incorporate physical rhythms/grooves using jazz idioms from his roots, conveying the tangible breath of living musicians. A masterpiece of cosmic music/minimal electronic music where rhythmic, repetitive progressions and elegant melodies inserted into abstract sonic spaces reveal glimpses of religious mysticism and an aesthetic reminiscent of Italian/Mediterranean music.
